Sintra

Sintra is the most popular trip and a full day. Take the train from Rossio, about 40 minutes. Check the destination on the board, because some trains end at Mira Sintra-Meleças. Private cars may not use the hill roads to Pena and the Moorish Castle, so use buses 434 and 435 (24-hour ticket €13.50).

Plan around the Pena time slot. The Essential Visit costs €20, the Moorish Castle and Monserrate €12 each, Quinta da Regaleira €20. Our Sintra day trip guide has the full order for the day, and the pages on the Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira have details.

Cascais and Estoril

Trains of the Cascais line leave from Cais do Sodré and take about 40 minutes. Estoril lies on the same line, so you can stop there on the way. The timetable changed on 6 April and 28 September 2026, so check the current schedule at the station or with the operator.

The 24-hour ticket for €11.40 covers the Cascais line and the Sintra line, which helps if you plan two trips or use the metro in between. A single fare for the Cascais line was not confirmed for 2026. More detail is on our Cascais page.

Cabo da Roca

Cabo da Roca lies on the Atlantic coast, between Sintra and Cascais. The lighthouse visit costs €5 for the Essential ticket and €10 for the Panorama ticket. The courtyard and the interpretation centre are open from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.

The park operator names two buses. Carris Metropolitana line 1253 runs from Sintra station, and line 1624 runs from the Cascais terminal, both to Portela de Sintra. Some sources also mention a Scotturb 403, but that is an older detail, so check on site. It is easy to combine Cabo da Roca with Sintra or Cascais on the same day.

Fátima, Óbidos and Nazaré

Further out, and best by bus. Figures are from operators and secondary sources and may change.

Fátima

119 km from Lisbon. The fastest FlixBus takes 1 hour 20 minutes, with fares from €4.48. Rede Expressos runs from Sete Rios in about 1 hour 30 minutes. The railway station called Fátima is in Chão de Maçãs, about 25 km from the sanctuary and poorly connected, so take the bus.

Óbidos

About 72 km. The bus from Lisbon takes about 1 hour 10 minutes, leaving from Campo Grande, with a fare of about €8. The train takes over two hours and needs a longer walk at the end. These details are not officially verified.

Nazaré

121 km. The fastest FlixBus takes 1 hour 25 minutes, with fares from €3.98. Rede Expressos from Sete Rios takes roughly 1 hour 40 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes. There is no useful train.

Each of these is a long day on the road. If you have only one day to spare, choose Sintra or Cascais first.
