Jerónimos Monastery at a glance

The Mosteiro dos Jerónimos stands in Belém, a few kilometres west of the city centre. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983, together with the Belém Tower. Museus e Monumentos de Portugal runs both.

The monastery, the tower and the rest of Belém are covered in more detail in our separate Belém guide.

Since 1 January 2025 the adult ticket costs €18. It used to be €12, so older guides understate the price. This page is independent and has no connection with the monastery or with official tourism bodies; the official portal is visitlisboa.com.

Whether the church can be entered without a ticket, we could not confirm from an official source. Plan on buying a ticket for the cloister, and check at the entrance if you only want to look into the church.

The Belém Tower next door costs €15 in 2026. Visiting both costs €33 per adult at full price, or nothing if you hold a Lisboa Card and manage to book the slots.

Lisboa Card: book the slot first

With a Lisboa Card the monastery is free. Entry works only with a time slot, and you book that slot with the number of your card. You receive that number once you have exchanged your voucher for the physical card at a tourist desk.

You cannot reserve in advance without the card. Places for card holders depend on the daily quota and are not guaranteed. So pick up the card early in your stay and book Belém for the next day, not for the last day.

For prices and a worked example, see the Lisboa Card guide.
