Quinta da Regaleira at a glance
The Quinta da Regaleira is a garden estate in Sintra and one of the main sights besides the Pena Palace. It is best known for the initiation well, which is why most visitors come. The estate is run by the Fundação Cultursintra, which sets its own prices and hours, separate from the Pena and Moorish Castle tickets.
Older guides quote €12 or €15 for entry. Those numbers are outdated. The prices below are the ones valid from January 2026.

The initiation well
The initiation well is the feature the estate is best known for. Most visitors build their visit around it, so treat it as the centre of your plan and let the rest of the garden follow.
Since August 2024, the ticket has a time slot for the start of your visit. The slot has a tolerance of at most one hour after your ticket time. Do not plan a tight connection from another sight, because the tolerance is short.
One thing has changed in the garden: the aquarium in the grounds is closed.

Opening hours
The winter 2026/27 hours could not be confirmed.
What we know
The operator announced new opening hours for 10 August to 30 September 2026. Independent sources list 10:00 am to 7:30 pm from April to September and 10:00 am to 6:30 pm in the other months, with last entry at 5:30 pm. These are not confirmed for this winter.
What to do
Check the hours on the estate's own website before you travel. Plan to arrive well before the last entry, and allow time for your slot and for the walk back to the bus.
Getting to Quinta da Regaleira
Take the train from Rossio to Sintra, about 40 minutes. From there, bus 435 serves Monserrate, Regaleira and Seteais. It starts around 9:00 am and runs until about 6:30 pm. Travellers report that it is not always punctual. A 24-hour ticket for buses 434 and 435 costs €13.50. The Lisboa Card is not valid on these buses.
Private cars have no access to the roads towards Pena and the Moorish Castle, and the historic centre is limited to residents. The municipality has tightened signs and traffic checks in 2026. If you drive anyway, park at the edge of town, for example in Lourel, and continue by bus or on foot.
For the full route, see our Sintra day trip guide.

Regaleira with the other Sintra sights
Adult prices for 2026. Regaleira fits well as a morning stop.
| Sight | Adult price | Time slot |
|---|---|---|
| Quinta da Regaleira | €20 | At the start of the visit, tolerance up to 1 hour |
| Pena Palace, Essential Visit | €20 | Fixed slot for the palace |
| Moorish Castle | €12 | – |
| Monserrate | €12 | – |
A common plan is Regaleira in the morning, lunch in town, then the Pena Palace in the afternoon. The park operator says the afternoon is currently less busy at Pena. See the Pena Palace page for tickets and slots.
Planning your visit
Book the slot for the start of your visit and aim to be at the gate on time, since the tolerance is only up to one hour. If you come from Lisbon by train, work backwards: train time, bus 435 wait, then the gate. Leave a margin for the bus, which travellers describe as not always reliable.
For a family, the €60 ticket is the simplest option. Check the age limits first: youth and senior tickets cost €15, and under 6 is free. If you want the audio guide, buy it at the ticket office for €5, because it is not sold online.
On the cost side, a day with Regaleira, Pena Essential and the Moorish Castle comes to €52 in entry fees for one adult, plus the €13.50 bus ticket and the train. Our sample budget for the full day is around €70 without food. Read how it fits together in the Sintra day trip guide.
